Dell vista driver for the x1400

Howdy, I have come across a serious problem with my Inspiron and its graphics card. I entered my code in the dell support site and downloaded the proper driver for my laptop.

Unfortunately, whenever I try to install it, it does one of two things: Either it tells me that installation of the driver failed and that I should try setting my video card up with a default VGA driver or 2 It installs properly, but the Catalyst Control Center doesn't recognise my card at all. I also know something is wrong because Vista has Aero turned off. I don't want to format my computer and then try to install the driver again and only have it fail.
